On the 11th of November every year we pause to remember those who lost their lives protecting our country. We wear red poppies in solidarity. The purple poppy represents the animals who went to war with their human counterparts and also lost their lives. The Australian War Animal Memorial Organisation (AWAMO) raises money through the sale of Purple poppies to establish memorials, support retired war animals and provide monetary assistance to train support animals for returned soldiers. The official war animal remembrance day is the 24th of February.
